Meet Rachel

I am a person who, just like you, has experienced the ups and downs of life. I have felt the pain of not being understood. I have experienced the frustration of not understanding what was happening inside of my own body. This has deeply informed my mission as a therapist. I aim to help you understand yourself, to see and heal the wounds you carry, and to help you feel fully alive as a person in your relationships.

“My mission in life is not just to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some humor, and some style.”

— Maya Angelou

Background

I am determined to find balance in my life. This reality has shaped who I am as a therapist, a spouse, a mother, and friend. I’m an avid reader of mystery novels and love learning about neuropsychology. I find energy and peace in the outdoors and enjoy biking, camping and walking in the woods. I earned a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University and am fully licensed in the state of Michigan. I founded Passionate Life Counseling to help others find balance in their lives.

In therapy, I use an integrative perspective, addressing developmental, social, relational, physical, and spiritual dimensions. I utilize aspects of emotion focused, cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, Internal Family Systems, brainspotting, and psychodynamic approaches. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and Certified Brainspotting Therapist and have pursued continuing education centered on healing and changing stored trauma within the body. As a trauma therapist, I pay attention to the somatic and physiological expression of emotional pain, and utilizes a variety of mind/body techniques with clients.

Billing & Insurance

Accepted Insurance Plans:

Aetna, Blue Care Network, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cofinity, Magellan, and United Health Care

Verify your Insurance Coverage

Before beginning therapy it is important to verify your insurance coverage and costs as insurance plans vary greatly in terms of deductibles, licensing requirements, and out-of-network benefits. Contact your insurance provider prior to your first session and ask the following questions:

  1. Do I have mental health insurance benefits?

  2. What is my deductible and have I met it yet?

  3. After I reach my deductible, what is my co-pay?

  4. Are there any special requirements or authorizations required to receive outpatient mental health services?

  5. Is there a limit to how many counseling sessions I can have?

Out-of-Network

Your insurance plan may offer out-of-network benefits if you are not in-network. For instance, in some cases your out-of-network deductible may be applied to your in-network deductible. Check with your insurance plan to see what benefits are included in your plan.

Out-of-pocket

Paying out-of-pocket increases confidentiality as it eliminates the need to involve insurance companies. Insurance companies require a diagnostic mental health code and often determine the number of sessions you are allowed to have.

If paying out of pocket, the fee is as follows:

Initial session:                   $180
Continued sessions:          $165

Your right to receive a good faith estimate of charges

Payment Plans

Passionate Life Counseling is proud to offer flexible payment options. These plans allow for smaller weekly payments or monthly automatic payments towards your balance. Payment plans may be used for out-of-pocket, FSA/HSA, or out-of-network insurance scenarios.
